Internet is the medium for the users to upload and download any kinds of music no matter what genre, latest songs in chart or even evergreen songs. As time goes by, we prefer to download songs from the internet rather than to buy a music CD in stores. Apparently, advancement in IT especially internet makes our life easier and convenient but yet there are advantages and disadvantages of downloading or uploading songs from the internet.
The most common software to download songs is Limewire and Ares. According to Wikipedia, Limewire is a free peer to- peer file sharing (P2P).It offers a freeware version and also a purchasable version. We just need to download this software in our computer and we are ready to download our favourite songs for free. But as we all know, indeed downloading is very popular but if we download it for free we will violating a copyright laws as it is considered as piracy.
The disadvantages are overweighing the advantages. If we download songs from the internet we will encounter with virus problem because most of the times viruses are downloaded along with song. It also can hurt computer’s security because our computer can become a server and the most dangerous of downloading is companies can place tracking software onto our computer. Besides that, we might get sued by some associations who fill a lawsuit against people who download music.
But there are advantages too. We can download songs legally in certain websites for example www.pressplay.com and www.listen.com and the most popular website is www.apple.com/itunes. We just need to pay the fees and we can download unlimited songs. The advantage of downloading songs from the internet is we can download it at any time we want. We may only have to pay for the songs we want and we don’t have to pay for the whole CD just to get one track. Therefore, as I said earlier it makes our life more convenient.
